Cottage History

Harriet Klingelhofer purchased the lot for her new home on February 22, 1896 for a mere $225.00. The original structure, which consisted of four rooms and the front porch, was built shortly thereafter.

Not much is known about Harriet, but her simple, yet graceful style is still visible in the small details. Neat symmetrical stained glass squares of gold, red and blue line the windows, and the simple squared moulding echo that style. The kitchen and bathroom were added in 1910, with a garage and breezeway constructed in 1970.

There have been only ten owners over the years, including the current owner, Ron Askland, who has tastfullly decorated and restored the cottage to create this charming Bed & Breakfast. Located in Whittemore, Iowa, Harriet K's Cottage is a perfect relaxing getaway for two.

Cottage Information

Harriet K's Cottage is rented as an all in one unit with a full kitchen including stove, refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster, microwave and dinnerware.

A continental breakfast and late night snacks are included.

There are laundry facilities on site.

There is an attached garage.

An alarm clock and VCR are provided.

Smoking is prohibited.

Gift certificates are available upon request.

Personal check, cash or money orders accepted.

All rates are for 1 or 2 people per night.

A one week notice is required for cancellation.

For cancellations less than one week prior, payment in full is expected unless the cottage is re-rented. No penalties will apply to weather emergencies.

Check-in and check-out times are very flexible - contact the innkeeper.

When you make a reservation at Harriet K's, you are reserving the entire cottage; living, dining, bed, bath, kitchen and attached garage.

Only $95.00, including taxes and fees, per night, for one or two adults. We really aren't set up to accomodate children, but please check with the innkeeper, because we have been known to make exceptions.

For your convenience and safety, smoking is strictly prohibited, and pets are not allowed.
